Apollo Theater Harlem & Fox Theater Detroit 1961

Timi Yuro is considered to be one of the first "blue-eyed" soul stylists of the rock era and the first white female artist to sing at New York's legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem 1961.

Due credit for Timi's performance at the Apollo Theater must go to Clyde Otis, Timi's producer, he went with her to New York and made her sing at the Apollo Theater.***

It was in the same year she shared the bill with the GREAT singer Ray Charles (and would not be convinced she was white) at the Fox Theatre in Detroit in September 1961.***

Timi Yuro at The Palladium December 1961

In December, 1961, the radio DJ known as "Murray the K" hosted a "Holiday Stage Spectacular" here that ran for eleven days, with shifting headliners.

Johnny Mathis topped the bill on December 22-23, followed by Bobby Vee from December 24-29, and by Dion from December 30 through January 1. Performing throughout the engagement were Joey Dee & The Starliters, U.S. Bonds, Bobby Lewis, Timi Yuro, the Isley Brothers, Jan & Dean, and others. The screen attraction was John Wayne's "The Comancheros."

Timi Yuro Television & Movies Philippines 1967

Several appearances on television Philippines 1967***

Timi appeared in a black and white Philippines film "Buhay Marino" (Life of a sailor) in 1967, as a guest star with Philippine comedians Dolphy (real name Rodolfo Quizon) and Panchito (real name Alfonso Tagle)

"Buhay Marino" and "Incognito" were filmed in the Philippines in 1967. ***

Some sources claim the movies "Incognito" & "Hindi Tayo Talo"(?) were filmed in 1962.

Kathleen Richardson: Since Timi hadn't even recorded Hurt until 1961 - 1960 would be impossible. She was in the Philippines in 1962 but only for two weeks so that is remotely possible but unlikely. I am not aware of her doing "Hindi Tayo Talo" but that is also possible.

Timi Yuro performed at the Airman's club on Okinawa, Japan 1967-68

Timi Yuro came there and performed for the troops at the club. I was stationed there from Oct 1966 to June 1968 at Kadena AFB.

I remember the concert Timi performed at the Airman's Club on Okinawa in 1967-68.

The night she performed, she came within touching distance to my table. She couldn't be more than 5 foot tall or less. She wore a black dress with heels and her hair was very short.

It seems as though it was in the 1967 holiday season (Nov-Dec 1967) these pics were taken by me in the club where she performed 'Hurt" and 'I Apologize' and a few others. It was a two night affair, as memory recalls.

She had a terrible cold and her voice was strained but she still came through. What a singer!

Okinawa is a small island at the southern tip of Japan. It is part of the Ryukyu Islands and was the final battle ground by which the Allied powers were part of before getting into Japan in WW2. In 1969 it was returned to Japanese control but the US still maintains a base there.

Timi Yuro San Remo Festival

Timi appeared a second time at the San Remo Festival and sang "Le solite cose", reached the half final.
The casino of San Remo is the oldest one in Italy, and always shown a great passion for music.

Sunday Night at The Palladium UK 1968?

Chris Lorrimer;
She certainly did NOT do Sunday Night at the London Palladium in '68, this was a live show and her visa did not permit her to make live appearances. She was invited onto the pre-recorded Dusty Springfield how then recording - until they fell out over 'As long as there is you' and Dusty had us round and went big time - showing off all the gowns she had for the six shows - this pissed Timi off - as despite several raids on Bond street she felt wardrobe-less. I'm not sure whether Dusty dropped the invite or Timi told her impolitely where to shove her show.

Tom wrote it as a folk song - and as was his practice he offered it to his sister Dusty. She said nothing could be done with it I can't remember how Timi got to get hold of 'As long as there is you' but she and Ian Green worked on it - got Tom's approval for the 'changes', recorded it - and when Dusty heard it she was furious.

Timi Yuro at The Orient Tour & Television 1974

The Orient-during an 30 day tour appearances on several tv shows 1974?

Chris Lorrimer;

I know nothing about 1974 Tour of the Orient. I know she did Vietnam a couple of times to entertain the troops - when the war was on, but outside of the Philippines '67 visits - nothing.
